Marriage At The Office Of The Registrar Of Marriages (ROM)

You are required to submit your marriage application in Form JPN.KC02 with the following supporting documents:

  • Original and one (1) photocopy of National Identity Card (for citizen of Malaysia) of both parties to the marriage
  • One (1) coloured passport-size photo (32mm x 38mm) of both parties to the marriage
  • If applicant is a non-citizen:
    • Original and one (1) photocopy of Passport
  • Original letter confirming marital status: Single Status Certificate from the applicant’s country of origin or Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) completed in Malaysia

 

  • If applicant is sixteen (16) years of age and above but under twenty-one (21) years of age:
    • Original and one (1) photocopy of Birth Certificate

 

  • If applicant has been divorced:
    • Original and one (1) photocopy of Decree Nisi Absolute

 

  • If applicant is a widow or widower:
    • Original and one (1) photocopy of Death Certificate of former spouse

 

  • Special Marriage Licence application form(s), if applicable

You DO NOT need to submit photocopies of the National Identity Card of the two witnesses with your marriage application.

Marriage In A Church Or Temples:

You are required to submit your marriage application in Form JPN.KC02 or Form G with the following supporting documents:

  • Original and one (1) photocopy of National Identity Card of both parties to the marriage
  • One (1) coloured passport-size photo (32mm x 38mm) of both parties to the marriage
  • Original and one (1) photocopy of Birth Certificate of both parties to the marriage
  • One (1) photocopy of National Identity Card of each of the two witnesses
  • If applicant has been divorced:
    • Original and one (1) photocopy of Decree Nisi Absolute

 

  • If applicant is a widow or widower:
    • Original and one (1) photocopy of Death Certificate of former spouse

 

Solemnisation Of Marriage

During the solemnisation of your marriage at the office of the Registrar of Marriages, you are required to present the following documents:

  • Original National Identity Card of the two witnesses
  • Original National Identity Card (for citizen of Malaysia) or Passport (for non-citizen) of both parties to the marriage
  • If you are sixteen (16) years of age and above but under twenty-one (21) years of age, you must bring along your Birth Certificate

You would be wise to bring your own blue or black permanent ink pen.

NOTE:

  1. All photocopies are to be done on A4 size paper. Do not cut. Do not resize the document. Use the original size. For National Identity Card, photocopy both side of the Card on one side of the paper.
  2. Where your Single Status Certificate is not in English, you must organise a literal translation of the document. You should obtain a list of certified translators from your country’s Embassy in Malaysia. Official translation can also be carried out by the Malaysian High Court for a minimal fee. Your translated document must be then be authenticated by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Malaysia and endorsed by your country’s Embassy in Malaysia.
